This months Magpie Monday is something I have been searching for for years and I am so thrilled to have found one!
I have been making lace since I was about 12 and love to find unusual and lovely bobbins and at last I have found one with my name one!! It is an old bone one and now I have the fun of finding the right beads to spangle it.
What thrifting pre-loved bargains have you found this month?
No glass this week ;)
I called into my favourite shop in town on Saturday ... The Blue Door, and this caught my eye as I was leaving ... its a little jam spoon and such a pretty shape. Its silver and only a couple of quid ... its really sweet and delicate ... I think I need to have a cream tea now ;)
Yesterday we went to Eardisland Antiques Fair, it was in a big marquee ... a lot of the bits were pretty expensive but I did manage to find a couple of bits ...
... this beautiful Indian silver filigree spoon is probably not that old, but being a lacemaker and a silver smith it really appeals to me ... I love the flowers on the handle and the ripple on the leaf shape of the spoon bit ... it was marked as £18 and I got it for £16 ... probably not a total bargain, but I really love it and can't wait till I can hang it in my kichen (when I eventually get one again!)
... the other thing I got was a bargain and kinda follows my shopping theme ... LACE ... its a pretty old lace doily ... it was half price, so only £1.50 ... the label says early 1900's
being a lacemaker, I love looking at old work and although I love a bargain, its sad to think that the hours of work (an I mean hours) are now only worth a few quid.
I am very pleased with my pretty finds and buys :)
It was also fun looking at all the old samplers ...
... sorry about the reflection on the glass ... I was trying to take them subtly with my phone ;)

Keeping with
Mondays Moodboard of LACE, how do you keep all your bits of
lace from getting into a total mess? I had a big sort out / clear out
of mine a few months ago, so I don't have as many as I used to, and they
are at the moment in a little tin that I have.
These are some lovely ways to keep your lace tidy ...
easily accessible too ...
This is great if you have lots of wide lace ...
Lace wrapped around rulers ... how did they think of that??? hehe
I am collecting pretty storage jars at the moment, and I think this is a lovely idea ...
... and LOOK, this one has an old key ... do you think they saw my
blog post from Thursday?? hehe

We have quite a few charity shops in town and every week I like to have a mooch round and see if they have any new treasures ... this week I found an
Emma Bridgwater tin case with dancing mice on for only 50p ...
It is so sweet and I am going to give it to my beautiful niece, Kara who is 8 and she can fill it with her treasures ... it would be perfect for her make up, or some stationary.

Well I finished my jigsaw last night ... you know the one I got from the
carboot a week ago ... is it sad to admit that I really enjoyed doing it?
.... but ......... guess what ........ yep! there was one piece missing!

Not sure it is my 'best' photo of my craft to date, but it is some pretty lace that I made ;)

I have come to the awkward job of packing up my lace pillows. One of
them doesn't have anything in it at the moment, but the other has some
lace that I haven't finished (one of those half finished projects I am
looking forward to finishing!)
Luckily its not a wide piece that's on there at the moment, but have
decided the best way to pack it so it won't get all tangled is to use a
knitting stitch holder and thread it through the loops on the spangles
at the bottom (knitting stitch holders are an essential tool for
lace-makers!!) and then pack it in a box with folded towels on top.
It's not the end of the world if the bobbins get all tangled. When I
first started making lace, I was 13 and 2 of my brothers were under 5
and they were always knocking it over and it would take me ages to sort
out, especially when I was doing wide lace that required about a hundred
bobbins!
