I made this cute little set of pictures for my niece. They are very easy to make and something you could do with kids too :)
1. You Need
You will need little canvases (one enough for each letter) .. some buttons ... some paper flowers ... a plastic lace table mat ... cardboard letters ... some pearls ... glue & scissors.
you could print out pretty letters and cut them out, but I ended up using pre-made cardboard letters.
The little canvases measure 7cm x 7cm
The flowers I bought ended up being a bit to big, so I could only use a few, but as I needed to get it done for my nieces birthday, I didn't have time to get some different ones.
The plastic place mat is like lace, but you could use paper doily's.
2. The Lace
Measure the lace you need to cover each canvas.
Cut it out ...
...then the amount you need for each canvas ...
Glue the canvas all over
stick on the lace squares.
3. Embellishments
Lay out the embellishments and letters on the lace how you would like them
Using the glue, stick on all the embellishment and letters ... glue them well, so they don't fall off when hanging up.
buttons, gems, pearls and any other little embellishments always look good in clusters.
They can be hung in a row, in a blog or propped up on a shelf.
I hope you have a go and would love to see any you make.
I made this cute butterfly picture for my baby nieces 1st birthday ... I
am hoping it is something she can keep for years in her bedroom.
1. You Need
You need a box frame ... this one I got holds a picture just bigger than A4
some pretty papers, double sided tape, scissors, a butterfly shape, a pencil and a background sheet.
2. Butterflies
You will need lots of paper butterflies, so I made a stencil by printing out a butterfly that I liked.
and cutting it out
and then drawing it on the back of all the pretty papers ...
... and cutting them out. I cut out about 30.
I then folded the butterflies all slightly so their wings lifted up.
3. Laying them out
I had my nieces name printed onto a sheet of paper that I used for the background and then tried out different layouts for the butterflies to see which I preferred ...
once I had decided where the butterflies would be placed, I marked in pencil little dots (not sure you can easily see in this photo)
4. Sticking
I had to cut the double sided tape into thinner strips, but then stuck it on the back of each butterfly.
I then started sticking them where the dots where.
until the page was covered ...
making sure that the patterns on the papers were randomly spaced out
5. Framing
I then put it in the box frame
and I love it ... am so pleased with how it has turned out :)
I would love to see any 3d pictures you make ... hearts would look lovely too
Remember those old keys from the other week? ... well I have made a sweet HOME SWEET HOME picture
1. You NeedSome 3 old keys (wire wool them so there is no rust on them), a box frame, paints, pretty paper, sticky pads and glue spots and HOME SWEET HOME printed on some white card.
I looked everywhere in town for a box frame that was the right size, hoping I could find one in a charity shop, but the only small one I could find was this ...
It takes a 4' x 6' picture which is about the size you will need.
2. Painting
I painted the keys in 3 different colours (Humbrol Enamel Paints) but if you wanted you could keep then their origonal colour, keep the frame black and make your HOME SWEET HOME in black too, maybe some old typewriting font ... that would look great.
It took a few coats of paint and I painted the frame too.
I attached the mount back back on with a some double sided tape, but it depends on what your box frame is like as to if you will have to do this.
3. The backing
I glued the pretty paper onto the backing card of the frame
dead centre
and then put double sided tape around the edge ready for later to attach to the frame.
4. HOME SWEET HOME
I cut out the HOME SWEET HOME into 3 pieces, but if you wanted you could use letters from magazines and cut each letter out individually.
5. Placing
I then laid out the wording and keys onto the backing so I could space them and know where they were going.
6. Sticking
I stuck 3 little stick pads onto the back of each word
and stuck them on the backing ...
... in the right place.
I used glue spots for the keys ... stretched the glue spots out along the back of the key ... if you are using big keys, you may need more than one glue spot per key
and then stuck them between the HOME SWEET HOME wording (I realised after I had taken this picture, that they looked better with the keys pointing down, so turned them around)
7. Framing
I then removed the tape from the double sided tape around the edge and attached to the back of the mount.
and put it in its frame ...
I am really pleased with it ... its so pretty and I have it up in my hallway :)
I would LOVE to see any pictures you make :)
